The community was developed by Bentwater Development Company(BDC), which is known for its commitment to quality and excellence. Bentwater is situated on approximately 1,400 acres of land and offers a wide range of housing options, including single-family homes, townhouses, and waterfront estates.There are approximately 2600 homes in the community now.BDC has developed other neighborhoods like Elkins Lake and April Sound.

The community boasts three championship golf courses, the Weiskopf, Miller, and Grand Pines courses.The Weiskopf course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and offers breathtaking views of Lake Conroe. The Miller course was designed by Scott Miller and features rolling hills and challenging bunkers. The Grand Pines course was designed by Gary Player and is unencumbered by surrounding homes.

Bentwater also offers a variety of other recreational facilities. The community has tennis (and pickleball) courts, fitness center, two swimming pools, two parks (one with a dog park) and a marina. The marina provides residents with easy access to Lake Conroe, where they can enjoy a variety of water activities, including boating, fishing, and water skiing.

The Yacht Club, located near the front entrance, also hosts special dinners, weddings, and other events.
